Now marketed as three attractions: play barn, petting farm and tractor driving experience. The play barn is the Islands biggest undercover play space, carefully designed to appeal to children of all ages. For all budding archaeologists, the Dinosaur Farm Museum offers an insight in to the huge beasts that used to inhabit our Island. 9) Osborne House and Gardens

Queen Victoria could not imagine a prettier spot, and neither can we! Osborne House was the family home of Englands longest reigning monarch. Perhaps more suited to older members of the family who can appreciate the grandeur of the main house and the rich history. There are however acres of grounds for the kids to let off steam and a childrens play area. The swiss cottage, which was the purpose built chalet for the queens children is fascinating for all ages and even houses a museum of curious objects collected by the royal family.

Price: Adults £10.90 Children £5.50 Family Ticket £27.30

English Heritage Members: Free

Our tips: The best way to explore the grounds is on one of the horse and carriage rides. The grounds are one of the top locations on the Island for spotting a red squirrel.

10) Jungle Jims at The Summer Arcade

Great place to let the kids burn off some energy if the weather is less than sunny. There is also a traditional arcade with one armed bandits, tupenny nudgers and video games. The Jungle Adventure Golf is great for a bit of friendly family competition or why not try your hand at ten pin bowling. Situated along the Esplanade in Shanklin, the Summer Arcade is a pleasant stroll away from the hotel via the cliff steps down to the beach.

Price: Jungle Jims Adventure Play £2 per child

Our tips: This is a great place to escape to if your trip to the beach gets interrupted by a rain shower. Weekends can sometimes be quite busy as they specialise in birthday parties.

Don't forget that as well as a host of attractions, like the ones above, there is also plenty to do and see without it costing the earth. A traditional day at the beach costs next to nothing and we have some really beautiful beaches along our coastline. Walking is another great way to get out and about on the Island for free. We have over 500 miles of well maintained and signposted footpaths along with over 30 miles of Heritage Coastline. More than half the Island is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the best way to see it is on foot. With all that fresh air, you will be assured of a good nights rest
